About Pendleton, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Pendleton, Indiana was first settled in 1818, but the town was laid out and named after its founder, Thomas Pendleton, in 1830. Its early history was somewhat tumultuous, as the town served as the site of the trials and executions of the men convicted in the 1824 Fall Creek Massacre, an incident where a peaceful group of Seneca and Miami Indians were murdered by settlers. Later, in 1843, abolitionist Frederick Douglass was attacked by a mob when he was in Pendleton attempting to give a lecture. The Pendleton Correctional Facility, located on the south side of town, once hosted Depression-era gangsters Harry Pierpont and John Dillinger.
Pendleton today is known as a pleasant place to live, with its 150 acre Falls Park serving as the heart of the community. In addition to its namesake waterfall, the park also has an Olympic-sized pool, nature trails and the Pendleton Historical Museum. The town's 18-hole Fall Creek Golf Club is a public course with a history that dates back to World War I. Pendleton hosts numerous special events throughout the year, including the Highway 38 Sale in May, the Lions June Jamboree, the Back to School Fair in August, the Quilts in the Park event, Pendleton Fall Festival and Fall Creek Heritage Fair in September and the Christmas in Pendleton Open House event in November. Its no surprise that many of the town's biggest gatherings happen in late summer or early autumn winters are long and cold and spring can arrive late, but summers are mild and pleasant and fall weather is cool and crisp and gorgeous.
