About Lapel, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Lapel, Indiana was established in 1876 by town fathers David Conrad and Samuel E. Busby, who created it as the site of a station for the Anderson, Lebanon & St. Louis Railroad located at the crossing of the Pendleton-Fishersburg Pike southeast of Fishersburg. The town is actually named after the lapel of a garment, as Mr. Busby thought that the strip of land between the railroad and the turnpike resembled this part of a coat. While the town once boasted a car dealership, a canning factory, two department stores, a rock quarry and a bowling alley, today it has just over 2,000 residents and the nine-hole public Brockway Golf Course.
Lapel has one major event each year, the Lapel Village Fair, which is held for 3 days in mid-July. The fair features craft vendors, games, an outdoor movie, a car show, a scavenger hunt, bluegrass music, a town-wide rummage sale, and plenty of great midwestern food including a fish fry, a pancake breakfast, hand-breaded pork tenderloins, strawberry shortcake, a chicken noodle dinner and an all-you-can-eat Sunday morning breakfast buffet. Lapel has a typical upper midwestern climate, with winter temperatures hovering around the freezing point and a moderate amount of snow, wet springs, and humid summers.
